Through their teacher, several students from a First In Math team in Romania sent us their thoughts. Here’s what they had to say about FIM: “It’s a challenging
competition against well-prepared, hard-working students. At first I
competed against my classmates, but I gradually gained enough points
to be in the top 10, among the best American students!” “This is an opportunity to
measure our math knowledge against students from other countries, but
at the same time to practice our English. Also, through FIM I’ve
learned about the type of units of measurement used in the United States.” “Through this contest we
practice both math and English. I really enjoy playing FIM, as it’s
up to us how much time to spend on it and we can choose what types of
activities to engage in each day, so it’s very flexible.” “FIM strengthens the community
sense in our class; whenever one of us “lags behind," we
help him or her out so that our team’s average is not
affected.” “I’ve learned a lot
of new mathematical terms (in English) while playing FIM. Also, after
working through the timed activities in FIM, our in-class written tests
seem easier.” “This is the first online
contest that I participate in and I’m
